I don’t mind yeti selling a $400 cast-iron pan, because that’s simply not the kind of pan you were going to run out and buy at Walmart, any more than you would get a fancy Shun, or a Global chef’s knife, or a $1000 imported Japanese santoku knife, or expensive copperware or “waterless” stainless steel pans. Yeti is simply marketing this to the kind of people who buy things like that. And so is Lodge Cast Iron, who just came out with a brand new line of made in the USA enamel cast-iron pans which they’re selling at prices comparable to Le Creuset. It’s the type of pan you’d get for a wedding or Christmas or a special anniversary, not something you’d pick up in the kitchen aisle next to those $10 Ozark $10 cast-iron skillets. I may only be able to afford a used Toyota rather than a Porsche, but it’s still a nice car to look at, and congratulations to those folks who can afford one.
