Cast Iron Wednesday 09-11-2024: Sourdough and 9/11
Each year for the past several years on September 11, we've had a YouTube Live chat where we've commemorated the tragedy that happened on September 11, 2001. We've done our best to make sure it doesn't become too depressing; because even though this is certainly a serious topic of discussion, I've found that talking about the events that took place can be cathartic and even help with stress relief. (I'm not a doctor when I say that.) Meanwhile, I'll also be baking, or attempting to bake, my first sourdough bread loaf in a cast iron dutch oven. I'd wanted to do this last night, but events caused me to postpone the sourdough. At this time the dough is slowly rising in the refrigerator, and I'll take it out for the final proof at 5:00 PM, three hours before the live session. This should mean the loaf will be ready to bake during our live session tonight. And so, tonight's YouTube Live session will be about baking bread...and talking about September 11, 2001. As always, questions and answers regarding cast iron cookware are allowed and encouraged.
