The key to a great PowerPoint slide
How do you make a really good PowerPoint slide?
And I'm not talking about those minimalistic kind you see a keynote presentations. I'm talking about dense text and data heavy types you'd see at a top consulting firm, like McKinsey, Bain or BCG to kind of get used more for reports than for actual live presentations.
Well, there's a lot of components to these slides, but the most important part by far is the title. On a dense slide like this a title is everything because it helps the audience process the slides information and understand the key takeaways quickly. So rebuilding a slide like this picture, your title follows these three rules.
Rule number one, use a complete sentence, not just a few key words, one line can be enough but don't be afraid to have two.
Rule number two, summarize the slides main takeaway. If someone reads just the title of your site, what's the one thing you want them to know?
And rule number three, bring a perspective instead of just telling people what you did, tell them what the insights are, and ideally, what they should do about it.
Then as a bonus rule, make sure everything on your slide provides support for your title. If it's not related, then either remove it or update your title. Follow these simple steps and your slides will start to look a whole lot better.
