The holiday season is here, and that means it's time for...fruitcake! But no, not those hideous bricks of sticky, gummy fruit blobs sold in the stores. Fruitcake jokes fly fast and furious every year at this time. But the reason why fruitcake is so despised is because many people have never had a delicious homemade fruitcake -- one where you can add the ingredients YOU want. And that's why I'm proud of this recipe. Not only does it not use those horrid red and green "cherry" blobs seen in most fruitcakes, this recipe also does more to prepare a delicious cake batter that rises terrific. And that's why this is a "magical" fruitcake: it's a fruitcake people will actually want to eat! (This particular recipe also does not have any alcohol in the finished cake, so you can safely serve it to kids or take it to work.)
If you're preparing to bake your first cake from scratch, you can't do better than to begin with fruitcake. This is one of the easiest recipes in the world to prepare: just put all the ingredients together in one huge bowl, mix them up, and bake the cake. Because the batter is so thick and heavy, it's practically guaranteed not to stick when the cake is removed from the pan.
