What a weekend this was. We crossed the Arctic Circle for the first time, we visited Santa and his Reindeer at Santa Village, and just finally had some downtime just for the two of us.
But the main reason for this trip of ours has been something else, yet. Seeing Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, for the first time has been a beautiful and extraordinary experience. Even though the activity was comparably low (level 2 out of 9 on KP-index), the pure scale and beauty of this truly unique natural phenomenon has made an impression of a lifetime and is beyond comparison.
In Finland, they call Aurora Borealis "revontulet" which translates to "Fiery Fox". Originating in the belief that the Northern Lights are fires caused by the tail of a mystical fox dancing across the sky.
We have been incredibly lucky to have seen the Northern Lights literally from the porch of our cottage and we cannot wait to come back for more!
