It’s the gym, not a night club! You are right. The gym is meant to be a place to work hard and sweat. However, ask yourself this:
Have you lost motivation to workout?
Are you trying to regain your confidence to go back to the gym?
When you look good, you feel good.
What Does My Workout Wardrobe Look Like?
I live in Southern California, so my typical workout clothes primarily consist of a:
Compression underwear
Tank top
Shorts
Full zip hoodie
I usually keep my full zip hoodie on until I’m warmed up, then I take it off. Since my body tends to run hot, I rarely wear pants or t-shirts since I don’t like the look or feel of sweaty arm pit stains. Plus, I like the muscle to muscle connection of seeing the working muscle contract during your reps.
4 Simple tips To Upgrade Your Workout Clothes On A Budget
Workout Style Tip #1: Copy The Mannequins And Models
Go to your favorite sports clothing store, such as:
Nike
Lululemon
Adidas
Under Armour
1. Say hi to the salesperson
2. Point to 1-4 mannequins on display
3. Give the salesperson your size measurements
4. Try the clothes on to ensure you like the quality and they fit
5. Pay for clothes
6. Go to the gym
I used to work at a sporting goods store, so I know a lot of time is invested into styling those mannequins so you’ll buy outfits, as opposed to one off pieces.
Or if you buy your workout clothes online, do this.
Find a top you like, add it to your cart, then look at the picture of the model to see what bottom piece they’re wearing with the top. Find the bottom piece and add it to your cart. You just made your first gym outfit.
Workout Style Tip #2. Pay A Little More For Better Quality
Since these are workout clothes, you will be washing them a lot. Therefore, it’s important you invest in quality.
I’m not a huge fan of working out in 100% cotton, or even 50% cotton and 50% polyester, as I find it’s too warm, and not breathable or comfortable.
Workout Style Tip #3: Take Advantage Of Sales
You do not need to spend a lot of money on a new gym wardrobe.
I recently saw that Gymshark and Nike were having a big sale. I’ve never wore Gymshark before so I wanted to spend under $100 so I could try out a few pieces.
For $89.18, including tax, I bought:
1 short
1 full zip hoodie
3 tank tops
Regular price: $147.90. That’s a 40% savings.
Nike also had a sale. I spent $140.43 to buy:
Training sneakers
1 full zip hoodie
1 short
Regular price: $309.94. That’s a 55% savings.
I’ve purchased a lot of my Alphalete clothing for up to 60% off during Black Friday deals.
Workout Style Tip #4: Wear Shirt Colors That Show Sweat The Least
If you don’t want to show sweat marks, it’s best to stick to shirt colors that are very dark or very light, including:
Black
Dark Navy Blue
Dark Grey
White
