Today we’re taking a look at the Trident Z5 64gb RGB DDR5 kit courtesy of G.skill. This memory kit consists of two memory modules, each of which are 32gb for a total of 64gb. The kit is XMP 3.0 verified meaning that if you’re using a qualified Intel motherboard, you should be able to get DDR5 6400 megatransfers at CL32-39-39-102 timings with 1.4V. Since XMP makes memory overclocking a little bit easier for everyone, all you need to do is enable it in the bios. For my test system here, I’m running an Intel i7-14700K with an EVGA RTX 3060 12gb GPU. I mainly will use this system for video editing but it’s definitely capable of some solid 1440p gaming. For purely gaming rigs, 32GB of memory is usually the target but if you’re using your PC for production tasks like video editing, 3d modeling, or some kind of AI or deep learning, having 64GB of fast system memory is going to be a welcomed upgrade. I think for the Intel 14th gen platform, 6400MTs or megatransfers per second is a solid sweet spot for performance and value for money. You might hear people say MHz when talking about memory, they are referring to the same thing basically. I think getting into an Intel LGA 1700 platform now as a new build, DDR5 is definitely the way to go but I would honestly skip the 4800MT rated stuff ang go with at least 6000 if not 6400, I don’t think the cost savings is worth it, especially as time goes on and newer AAA games come out. You can always go higher in terms or raw MTs but then you do end up getting into diminishing returns for most games, this is really the sweet spot in DDR5 memory on the Intel platform right now in my opinion. Of course we have some nice RGB so that’s gotta be worth at least 10 or 20% performance I think, right? The RGB colors can be controlled through various RGB applications, G.skill lists Aura Sync, RGB Fusion 2.0, Mystic Light Sync from MSI, and Asrock's Polychrome sync. I like the look of these all black heatsinks and the RGB on top just adds that nice final touch to the aesthetic of the build in my opinion. I ran my system through a ton of gaming benchmarks to make sure it was stable and performing well, no issues with XMP enabled and the performance was good. I definitely recommend always checking out G.Skill’s compatibility matrix, they post detailed QVL’s on their website for every single memory kit they sell which is awesome. Just in case you aren’t familiar with G.Skill, ALL of their memory kits come with a limited lifetime warranty. I have actually been a long time customer and have actually had to use G.Skill technical support before, they are awesome and quick. As for eeking out even more performance, I was able to do a quick and dirty overclock on this memory to get it to 6600MT/s which yields a slight improvement. I think for most people with a CPU like the 14700K though, just running the normal XMP mode is plenty good for AAA gaming. I might retest this memory kit with the integrated GPU on the 14700K and see what kind of gaming improvements I can get, maybe even benchmark against my Ryzen 7700X iGPU, if any of you are interested in that, let me know. As for the overall value, this kit is coming in at about $218 on amazon as of the publishing of this video, I think that's a solid deal for fast memory with good heatsinks, RGB, and a lifetime warranty. If this video helped you out, drop a like on it, that let’s YouTube know other people researching memory kits might want to see this.
