Today we’re taking a look at the Inateck SATA to USB 3.0 adapter. Inateck sent this over with the SATA docking station I reviewed recently. This is one of those handy to have 2.5mm drive adapters for plugging in older or extra 2.5inch drives as USB drives. The design of this unit is basically a two piece sliding or locking lid. You can install the drive, either a 2.5inch SSD or a 2.5inch hard drive and connect that to any PC with USB. This adapter does support USB 3.0 for faster transfer speed which is nice. In my usage and testing, I found it to be quite easy to use and performant which I liked. This would be very useful for anyone who does work on PCs or finds themselves constantly switching out 2.5inch SSDs or hard drives. I tested my Samsung 850 EVO SSD with this adapter in CrystalDiskMark 8 to see what kind of speeds were achievable. I was able to hit about 420 to 430 megabytes per second on the read test and about 410 to 420 megabytes per second on the write test. The speeds were just a touch lower than what I normally get with the SSD directly connected to a SATA port but the convenience of taking a SATA SSD or hard drive out of a PC and using it as an external drive is worth it in my opinion. If you’re working with a lot of drives and don't want to fuss installing them internally into test machines or your PC, I would definitely take a look at this Inateck SATA 2.5inch to USB 3.0 adapter.
