A holistic introduction to TAD: The Architect's Desktop

(Note: there is a tiny glitch in the beginning of the video where something in the bottom right corner had to be clicked)

The original presentation was made around 2002 -- that's quite a lot of years back. The voiceover was made on that in April 2017

In fact the term BIM was not even invented then. The questions in BIM had been on several researcher's mind for many years. I was working on this problem since 1989.

In 1991, I won the JIIA Special Award for Architectural Research for my proposal of a mathematical taxonomy for architecture. Using that taxonomy, it is quite easy to develop a "loosely coupled" system which is what TAD essentially is.

It is so loosely coupled that an architect's hand is not forced to think in any particular way.

So he or she can start right from very hazy stages of designing; where space volumes are arranged almost like a bubble-diagram. And from that haziness, you can then proceed to clarify and flesh out the final design. All along, TAD would be available as a faithful servant; who can give you quite potent answers to your queries:

What is the area of this room? How far am I from the corner over there? What is the total area being consumed ... and so on.

Hence the design cycles are all well respected. In each cycle, the architect can communicate what exactly is needed -- and bring in other collaborators too.

There is no confusion, even during the hazy stages of designing.

This presentation explains the core concepts inside TAD which gives it all the power and the simplicity.

TAD is now available free from www.teamtad.com You need a free registration too in order to use TAD. Everything is explained on that website
