DATE: 01/11/2024 | TIME: 12:10 PST | INCIDENT: TRAFFIC STOP | PENAL CODES INVOLVED: CVC 21453 (a)
I, Timmothy Robinson, was on patrol heading east on Great Ocean Highway when I witnessed a black four-door sedan make a right turn on red without coming to a complete stop. I activated my emergency lights and sirens and proceeded to pursue the vehicle to its final stopping place at 015 Propio Promenade. As soon as we stopped, I called for an additional unit, which never arrived. I also noticed that the vehicle's license plate did not return any information on my CAD system. I took note of this as I approached the passenger side of the vehicle.
I then introduced myself, stated the reason for the stop, and asked the driver why he did not stop. He informed me that he did not know he was required to stop at the red light. I mentioned the issue with his license plate, and he assured me that his vehicle was registered correctly. Keeping that information in mind, I returned to my motorbike and used the MDT tablet to look up the name "Jimmy Smith." It turned out that the vehicle was registered under the plate number 42EOH929, while the plate on his vehicle was 42EOH989. I informed him of this discrepancy, and he stated that he would get it fixed.
Jimmy Smith was given a written warning for CVC 21453 (a) | Running a Red Light. He complied throughout the interaction.
