I, Timmothy Robinson 5K-157, was on patrol as MBU when a city unit alerted the county RTO of an ongoing vehicle pursuit north on Interstate 1. I got on my bike and headed out towards Interstate 4, where I sat on the bridge and waited for the suspect to pass by. While I was sitting there, another CHP MBU, 3K-94, caught up with the suspect and pulled them over under the Route 68 bridge northbound Interstate 4 at postal 306. I pulled in as backup, and the primary LASD unit pulled in front of us.
The LASD unit got out and pointed his service weapon at the suspect suddenly. The suspect then took off northbound, turned around, and headed south on I-4/I-1, and then turned around again heading north on I-1/1-4. After getting off the north I-4 bridge at Postal 352, an officer had spike strips set up. The suspect struck the spike strips and spun out, crashing into the side of I-4.
He then stepped out and took off running on foot up the hill towards the railroad tracks. I stepped off my bike and began chasing after him with my firearm in hand. The suspect proceeded to brandish his weapon after passing over the railroad tracks and up a secondary hill. As he entered a bush, he began shooting at officers. I aimed my weapon and shot into the bush, with landscaping providing a safe backstop. I fired my weapon 15 times before I was shot several times. I found a Fremont Police cruiser, took their medbag, and started self-treatment as an FBI unit assisted me.
I was cleared by the county medical team, turned in my service weapon, and was then cleared from the scene by 3K-94. I discharged my weapon because the suspect posed an active deadly threat to me and other officers at the scene. I had no choice but to use deadly force to stop the active threat.
