Case Number: 130040K04022025
DATE: 02/4/2025 | TIME: 17:50 PST | INCIDENT: | SUSPECT: BOB MATT || DOB: 11/21/2002| PENAL CODES INVOLVED: CVC 10851(a), CVC 14601.1, PC 29800, CVC 22349 (d)
I, Timmothy Robinson, was patrolling as a motorbike unit with the California Highway Patrol when I observed a two-door red sports car speeding south on I-4. I exited my radar position and pursued the vehicle. Once I was behind it, I clocked the car traveling at 86 in a 65 MPH zone. I activated my emergency lights and pulled the vehicle over to the side of the highway at mile marker 544 on I-4 South.
While waiting for backup on the traffic stop, I ran the driver's license plate, but it returned no information. I then approached the driver, introduced myself, and stated the reason for the stop. The driver claimed he was just testing the new car he had bought. I requested his driver's license, which he provided, and I asked if there was anything on his record that I should be aware of. He informed me that his license was suspended. With this information, I asked Mr. Matt to step out of the vehicle, but he refused and requested a supervisor. I informed him that he was legally required to exit the vehicle, but he continued to refuse.
Eventually, my backup officer arrived to assist. After speaking with the driver, he still refused to exit the vehicle. An LASD unit arrived and successfully removed the suspect from the vehicle, detaining him at that time. Following this, a CHP supervisor arrived on the scene. I looked up the suspect's name and confirmed that he indeed had a suspended license.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, and a Glock 17 handgun was found. Mr. Matt, after being read his Miranda rights, admitted that the weapon belonged to him and that he had stolen the vehicle. I then informed Mr. Matt that he was under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and for the firearm found in the car.
Although Bob Matt was initially noncompliant, he eventually complied with law enforcement and admitted to his crimes. He was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as cited for speeding.
