Hey players, DJay here with another longplay on another arcade exclusive shmup, Super Spacefortress Macross II. All 3 courses were cleared.

Description of the game:

Super Spacefortress Macross II (Chou-zikuu Yousai Macross II in Japan) is a bulletstorm shmup developed by NMK and published by Banpresto exclusively for the arcades in September 1993 on the NMK 16 hardware. It is a direct sequel to Super Spacefortress Macross in 1992 based on the anime and manga, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: Lovers Again. It is the 2nd Macross arcade game ever developed, followed by Macross Plus in 1996.

In 1999, an alien ship crashes on South Atalia Island and makes the human race aware of other life in space. Ten years later, the ship is reconstructed and christened as the SDF-1 Macross. However, on the day of its maiden voyage, an alien race called the Zentraedi make their appearance on Earth, beginning the UN Spacy/Zentraedi war that would change the history of both races forever. Two pilots, Silvie (Player 1) and Nexx (Player 2), are dispatched to save Earth from the impending threat.

The gameplay system is drastically changed to its predecessor, changing from a vertical scrolling shmup to a horizontal shmup. The game is comprised of 3 different courses that vary in difficulty. There are 10 stages in total. (The final stage is the same in each course, but unselectable during 1P vs 2P sessions) Within each stage, the player's objective is to shoot down enemies and meet the target score indicated at the top of the screen. Points are earned not only by destroying enemies, but also by collecting bonus items and earning secret bonuses by meeting certain conditions. Power-ups such as different ship forms can be collected such as bombs, standard and homing missiles, as well as ship forms, Fighter and Gerwalk mode.
Fighter: Fires concentrated air-to-air shots and has higher speed.
Gerwalk: Fires air-to-ground shots, one aimed forward and another aimed 30° diagonally, has slower movement.
Collecting the same power-up will upgrade the weapon to a higher level, increasing damage. Taking a hit with weapons upgraded weakens it to the weakest level, while taking a hit without upgrades, destroys the ship, delaying scoring opportunities. As the game involves no lives, the only main obstacle is the timer. Players have 2 minutes to clear each stage by reaching the target score before time expires. If players reach the target score, they will advance to the next level. Failure to meet the target quota results in ending the game. (During the final stage, players are given one chance and failing to meet it rewards a bad ending)
