DJay 95 Plays: Air Combat 22 (Arcade) Longplay
Hey players, DJay here with another arcade exclusive longplay on another 3D shmup, Air Combat 22. Only 3 modes have been cleared in this run.
Description of the game:
Air Combat 22 is a 3D flight combat simulator by Namco released exclusively for the arcades in March 1995, being the first game to run on the Namco Super System 22 hardware. It is a direct sequel to Air Combat in 1993. The game itself was named after the system it ran on. This and its 1993 predecessor serve as direct predecessors to the Ace Combat series.
There are 4 different modes to choose from in the game, each with an adaptive difficulty and a set number of missions. (Dogfight mode has players taking on 4 enemies per stage, only a maximum of 32 stages (128 enemies in total) to clear.) After selecting a mode, there are 3 different warplanes to choose from, equipped with a machine gun and homing missiles. Players will then engage in combat by destroying a set number of enemy aircraft within the set time limit. Enemies can be destroyed using a machine gun or a missile (Missiles can be directed to enemy shrapnel, preventing possible damage). Upon destroying targets, the time limit will extend. After clearing each stage, the ammunition will be refilled. (In Dogfight mode, missiles refill after a successful kill.) Too much damage must be avoided, same for crashing into the ground. If the plane crashes into the ground or if the timer reaches zero, the game ends.
