DJay 95 Plays: StarBlade (Arcade) Longplay
Hey players, DJay here with another arcade longplay on another rail shooter, StarBlade.
Description of the game:
StarBlade is a 3D arcade rail shooter by Namco released for the arcades in September 1991 on the Namco System 21 hardware. Home ports for the game include the Mega-CD/Sega-CD and 3DO in 1994 and the PlayStation in 1995 with as an updated version called StarBlade Alpha. A re-release on iOS in 2013 was made available as part of the Namco Arcade application. A sequel, StarBlade: Operation Blue Planet, was planned to be released for the arcades in 2001 on the Namco System 246 to commemorate 10 years of StarBlade, but ultimately canceled. The game itself is believed to take inspiration from Star Wars.
Set in the year 235 A.G., the third wave of alien attacks are now led by UIMS (Unknown Intelligence Mechanized Species), nemesis of the Galaxians. Mysteriously, they sent a large mechanical planet named Red Eye, set on a collision course with Earth. The UGSF take defensive action, commencing Operation Starblade. As part of the operation, the UGSF send forth their new fighter, the FX-01 Geosword, a space fighter designed for close range combat. With that in mind, the Geosword squadron was formed to combat UIMS' evil forces and save Earth.
Throughout the course of the game, players pilot the Geosword in 3 long stages, shooting down enemies that appear on-screen and must attempt to survive all 3 by minimizing as much damage as possible. Players must move the crosshair to aim at the enemy and push the trigger button to fire twin laser shots. Enemies will attempt to shoot the player and some will fire their shots to damage the player if they are not shot down fast enough. Some projectiles can be destroyed to prevent heavy damage. There is no way to refill the shields at all. If the shield reaches zero, the player will be opted to continue.
