This meeting was hosted by the Permafrost and Modelers communities of practice, and featured a discussion on biases in the representation of permafrost carbon processes in US Earth system models. Accurate representation of permafrost carbon emissions in Earth system models is crucial for climate projections. A recent review of the state of permafrost carbon modeling concluded that current Earth system models inadequately represent permafrost carbon. In this session the lead-author of this review, Christina Schädel, presented the most important conclusions from this study.

Representatives from several modeling centers also provided updates.
