Cook Inlet is an estuary located in south central Alaska that has the fourth largest tidal range in the world. Cook Inlet is 180 miles long with large offshore oil and gas deposits. This session discussed the physical oceanography in Cook Inlet via data synthesis and numerical modeling.
Two experts shared aggregated physical oceanographic data sets, upcoming field observations, and model data comparison. Tyler Hennon (UAF) presented "Observations of Tidal Processes in Cook Inlet." Thilo Klenz (UAF) presented "The circulation in a tidally-dominated inlet under varying forcing scenarios in a high-resolution regional model."
