Umtanum Creek Falls - Washington State
Umtanum Creek Falls is located in a remote canyon between Ellensburg and Yakima. This area is windswept sagebrush country, with trees mostly confined to the bases of the canyons. A large parking area at the trailhead leads to a relatively short hike to the falls, suitable for people of all skill levels, though there are some creek crossings. Upon reaching the top of the falls, you can take one of several scrambler's routes to visit the pool at the base of the falls. A fire burned much of this area a few years ago, but fortunately, many of the large trees within the canyon survived. This oasis in the desert is a delightful place to enjoy vegetation and wildlife typical of arid environments.
