Impressive 2020 OTIS GM2 elevators with custom design – Mondrian Seoul Itaewon, KR
This time we got some impressive Korean OTIS elevators in an awesome brand-new Mondrian hotel, which design may seem weird at some points and exciting at others.
This building was constructed in 1988, it used to be old-fashioned Hotel Capital, where nearby embassy district's visitors preferred to stay, until Accor came with renovation in 2019. New exterior and interior was designed by Gansam Architects and was redone in 2020, involving some creative methods and making it looking completely different from other luxurious and posh 5-star hotels.
Of course, in such an unique renovation concept they couldn't not to realize the potential also on elevators. So, new onwer decided to order absolutely custom lifts from Korean OTIS factory, and their ideas were definitely great. We've got five guest elevators: three main and two shuttle, which go from parking levels to 5, the highest public accessible level. Main lifts' cabins' design is really impressive: they have huge screens on rear walls, one car operating panel with nice custom touch-sensetive buttons in each car and minimalistic LCD indicators. Hall panels and lanterns outside are also custom, they're rounded and have floor number above calling buttons.
All in all, just amazing elevators with interesting design concept. I hope, that other new hotels will not only install typical lifts with some luxurious elements, but instead will work out their design with architects.
