Probably, the best lift I've ever found!
A historic elevator from 1907 by Siemens & Schukert Lift Company: the oldest lift in St. Petersburg, and, maybe, the oldest in Russia.
It is very-very rare to see such an old elevator with original cabin and shaft in Russia, because during the Soviet times, communists simply demolished such beautiful elevators, like this one. But this epic Siemens in Mertens House wasn't replaced or demolished during Soviet Union! Its cabin and shaft is completely original, also some components are original too, except the motor and controller.
Mertens House was built in 1911 and that elevator was imported from Germany in 1907. In the end of 2000s this building had a major renovation and Stein company, which was first elevator supplier in St. Petersburg in 1900s, was involved into the restoration of the elevator. Their project was nominated as Project of The Year by Elevator World magazine in 2008 - http://www.stein.ru/sites/default/fil...
Stein did a great modernization of this historical elevator, the only sad thing, that they replaced original fixtures with generic by LM Liftmaterial ones.
Anyways, definitely not everyday you see such elevators. It was very hard to enter to the Mertens House, because of problems with security, but I did it!
