Today we have a truly unique lift: a hydraulic bottom drive OTIS from 1993 in a historical caged shaft.
This lift is located in a building of financial organizations (now 'Saint-Petersburg' Bank owns the whole building), it was constructed in 1879 and has amazing architecture and not less awesome interior design, you may see, how beautiful the building is, in my post. Of course, originally it had an elevator with swing door, but, unfortunately, during the building's history, it was replaced at least twice, and the last time was in 1993, when this custom OTIS was ordered.
I've never seen bottom drive elevators before, so this is my first experience with such lift, and I may say, that this technology was amazing. On the first photo you can see, how perfectly the lift's shaft fits on the top floor and there is nothing above it. Probably, the first elevator ever in this building also had its machine room below the first floor. Anyways, let's go back to our relatively modern OTIS. It is clearly seen, that this elevator was ordered from the factory specially for this building, and not only the shape and technology say that, the fixtures say that too. Maybe, they're generic, but you definitely don't see them often on such elevators.
I think, this building can even be a real sample, how to fit new lifts in old atmosphere of the building!
