The Guitar Solo Session series features interpretations of some of my favorite guitar solos. In many cases, I try to stay true to the original solo, while also incorporating some different licks, nuances and inflections. My overall goal is to be in the musical ballpark.

About the song and the solo:

"You're In Love" was the fourth single from Wilson Phillips' 1990 debut album. Written by group members Chynna Phillips, Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson with producer Glen Ballard, "You're In Love" ascended to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1991, marking the third chart-topping single from the album. The song also garnered a 1991 Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance By A Duo Or Group. The album shot all the way to No. 2 and sold more than 5 million copies in the United States.

On the original studio recording, the guitar solo was played by Michael Landau, who briefly dated Chynna Phillips. Utilizing Jimi Hendrix-inspired lines drawn predominately from the B Major Pentatonic scale, Landau turns in a tasty solo -- the type of musicianship you won't find on disposable hits in today's age.

For the lead guitar track, I played my 1989 Lipstick Red Ibanez 540S through a custom patch on my Eleven Rack. The majority of the backing track was downloaded via Karaoke-Version.com, with parts of the actual song spliced in.
