Therapeutic ultrasound is commonly used by Physical therapists and Occupational therapists. This machine is used to help reduce pain and inflammation while increasing circulation and mobility. Ultrasound is applied using an applicator that comes directly in contact with the patient’s skin. Gel is used on the patient's body part which is injured to help reduce friction. The therapeutic ultrasound essentially pushes the ultrasound waves into the tissues which increases circulation in the area deeper than just heat would and helps promote tissue healing.
