3 reasons why Soviet scouts did not use captured weapons?
Despite the fact that some samples of trophy small arms in some parameters were superior to domestic ones, the Red Army, including in the reconnaissance units, still preferred Soviet models. And there were several reasons for this. First: fear of being left without ammunition at the right moment, because of incompatibility of calibers of Soviet and German weapons. Secondly, for the use of trophy weapons it was easy to be court-martialed, as there was a resolution of the State Military Committee of the Soviet Union of March 3, 1942 for theft and embezzlement of weapons, property or trophy food. And thirdly. Here is what a former Soviet scout told about it: “We kept trophy automatic rifles just in case of fire. Looking at movies about scouts armed with German MP 40s, I will say that it is nonsense. It was just dangerous to use a trophy machine gun. You could easily catch a grenade or a return line from your own men.
