What did the Czechs throw at Soviet tanks in 1945?
The way the Czechs greeted the Red Army in 1945 is legendary. The Czechs were genuinely happy about the arrival of the Soviet soldiers. Men wanted to shake hands with any of the Red Army soldiers and girls wanted to kiss them. In this festive bustle was not without curiosities. Here is what one of the veterans of the Great Patriotic War recalls about it: “We were met, as everywhere in Czechoslovakia, with flowers and hugs. There were shouts: “Nazdar, friendship, Russian brothers!” . That's how it was. I'm not exaggerating anything. Tables were set around, bottles of wine and Czech plum were handed over. Suddenly some guy in a red ribbon pilot shouted: “Catch!” and threw us something like a huge grenade. We were still living through the war and almost opened fire. Fortunately, we managed to see and catch a two-liter braided bottle that was filled to the top with Czech vodka.
