I wanted to cover some thoughts I've been having about sound design and layering, and how to get things to gel, and what sort of sounds live in which parts of the frequency spectrum and how to think about EQ and layering and effects.

So this video goes into all of that in detail.

Notes:
Tips for sound design and layering

1 EQing vs layering
you can't increase what isn't there

2 humans are predictable
lows = pure tones
highs = noise
mids = fun stuff

3 copy the movement
volume is 90% of the movement
your brain will fill in the rest
don't overthink it.

4. If it's missing, add it with a layer (effects have 'dry/wet' knobs, think of those like layering)
sub
noise
stereo width

5. Process layered sounds together, again
gels things more
simple stuff like saturation, compression or eq can really help put a layered sound together.
