I'll often use this trick to see how something would look in a "dark mode" or "light mode". And sometimes I go with it!
So fast and simple. You invert the image, then invert the hues so they reverse-invert. You get a version of the image where the hues are maintained but the lights and darks are reversed. Trippy, but handy. Especially in map making!
