First held in 2023, the Olympic eSports Series (OES) is a global virtual and simulated sports competition that is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee, and in collaboration with international sport federations and respective game publishers.
The IOC has chosen ten game titles for the inaugural eSports Series, but in a supposed effort to maintain the integrity and values of the Olympic Games itself, none of the most popular eSports titles were featured, and all of these game titles selected for the OES were digital counterparts of the physical sport. This includes mobile games for tennis and archery, along with virtual games for taekwondo and cycling, among others. However, only a couple of them are instantly recognizable as video game brands: the racing simulation game "Gran Turismo" and Ubisoft's "Just Dance".
The competitions are open to both amateur and professional players, and it began on March 2023 with qualification rounds across the featured games. The series culminated with a live, in-person finals that took place during the inaugural Olympic eSports Week held at the Suntec Centre in Singapore from 22 to 25 June 2023.
