Primitive obsession is bad for your design.
It makes it impossible to represent valid states because the primitive type imposes an artificial limitation.
Why does this book model represent the edition with an int?
I understand it is fine so long as we only have to model the first, the second, the third edition.
The long video explains it all. This primitive model is not expressive. What if an annual edition of a book appeared?
2024 differs from 3 in the meaning, but we lost the meaning, haven't we?
What about seasonal editions, like the Summer 2024 edition?
That is where int even becomes insufficient to represent the data.
The solution to such open-ended problems is to use a polymorphic type, and let concrete implementations of that type model concrete variants.
