Hollywood’s TV and movie writers are now on strike!
The eleven thousand-plus members of the Writers Guild of America are seeking improved compensation and certain ‘duration of employment’ guarantees. This is largely a reaction to the streaming era, which has made writing more of a ‘gig economy’, thanks to its shorter seasons.
In terms of how this will affect viewers, late night shows including SNL will go dark immediately, and as for the rest, it’ll depend how long the strike lasts. Soap operas will run out of new episodes in about a month, and by the end of the year, we MIGHT notice a dip in new TV shows.
As for movies, the studios work about a year in advance, so it’d have to be a LONG strike for it to have an impact on your viewing… though you might see a dip in quality if studios end up having to rush things to production!
