Apple is offering a million dollars to anyone who can hack into its Private Cloud Compute. This is an expansion of Apple Security Bounty, applied to the server system which will power Apple Intelligence. And for the first time ever, Apple has created a Virtual Research Environment for one of its platforms, and is also offering up some of its source code! But let’s not get too technical: if you can successfully attack the servers remotely and have them execute “arbitrary code”, Apple will pay you a million dollars to learn how you did it! Let the hacking begin!
If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, there’s a silver lining: you’re not alone! A new analysis by the Bank of America Institute found that nearly A QUARTER of Americans live that way! And that’s according to a strict and technical definition. One where, quote, “necessity spending is more than ninety-five percent of their household income.” As for how many households FEEL they’re living paycheck to paycheck, roughly half of survey respondents considered that to be their situation!
And September's Hurricane Helene was officially the most financially devastating storm in North Carolina history, causing at LEAST fifty-three BILLION dollars in damages and recovery needs! The state's previous record was sevenTEEN billion, caused by 2018's Hurricane Florence. As for Helene, it brought massive amounts of rain and flooding, resulting in fourteen hundred landslides, and damaged six thousand miles of roads, over a thousand bridges and culverts, and about a hundred and twenty-six thousand homes.
Making things worse, nearly NINETY-THREE percent of those flood-damaged homes DIDN'T have flood insurance. Here’s hoping the government response is as good as it seems.
