South Africa is truly the country that 'has-it-all"! It probably is the most biodiverse country on planet earth. Apart from the geographical natural and diverse beauty, South Africa's human genetic diversity is another reason to capture the story and share it in the series for all to see, because it is really in the people that the true treasure of South Africa's beauty lies.
PhotographingSA is a self funded, impromptu and inspirational documentary series about the captivating beauty and diversity of South Africa. Joe kicks this series off in the Western Cape province that has proven to be the best governed province in South Africa by miles, and it also serves as an outstanding example of maximized tourism management, as it continuously ranks amongst the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
This episode: With Cape Town voted the greatest city in the world, the focus of Episode 1 is where Joe introduces the renowned Cape Town vibe by firstly capturing the creative and colorful spirit of the BO-KAAP, a predominantly Malay area with a history dating back to the 1700's. It is an extremely popular tourist destination for local and foreign tourists alike, continuously attracting all and sundry with its explosion of color, cuisine and cultural diversity that so definitively underline our much talked about rainbow nation.
The iconic Table Mountain, a world renowned landmark, counts as the 5th most popular of the official world wonders, and also attracts thousands of locals and tourists with its challenging hiking trails and cable cars, and offers the most spectacular views from the top of the Mother city. It certainly serves as another accolade and national treasure in Cape Town and South Africa and Joe includes original footage in this episode.
Also included in the first episode Joe captured the autumn or fall season in the Western Cape winelands. As a professional photographer with a fine eye for compositional elements, Joe laments that this season with its extraordinary colors and hues, is underrated and under-marketed as a tourism 'product' as it selflessly provides multiple natural and organic photographic opportunities to enthusiasts. He uses this section to showcase how a mixture of autumn landscapes paired with world class wines and food - which in itself rank amongst the best in the world - can be effectively captured on a photographic holiday. All footage for this sections was shot in and around Stellenbosch to wet the appetite for this type of seasonal photography of the popular South African winelands.
