From late April to early June British Bluebells burst into flower to form gorgeous carpets of blue in our woodlands, meadows, gardens and islands. This film takes you on a stroll along paths through some of the best Bluebell places in Britain with lovely natural bird song as you go. These spots include:
Polesden Lacey, Tanners Hatch woods, Leith Hill and Abinger Roughs (all in North Surrey), Parrot's Drumble ancient woods near Stoke-on-Trent, Rode Hall gardens in Cheshire, Skomer Island, the Pembrokeshire coastline and my own garden. I recorded the 'woodland chorus' on Ranmore Common near Tanners Hatch, Surrey.
The British Bluebell 'Hyacinthoides non-scripta' is native to the British Isles, which are home to more than half of the world's population.
