Welsh Highland & Ffestiniog Railway Locomotive Footplate Experience
We took a 'Behind the Scenes' Ffestiniog Travel holiday between October 15th - 17th 2022 on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Narrow Gauge Steam Railway in North Wales. The highlight was a ride on the footplate of a mighty Beyer Garratt locomotive on the Welsh Highland section between Caernarfon and onto the Cob at Porthmadog! It also included lots of photo stops with the special charter train, a full 'there and back' trip to Blanau Ffestiniog and an exclusive tour of the workshops where skilled craftsmen and women undertake amazing restorations and construction of new carriages and locomotives. It's gratifying to see that these skills are thriving, as well as all the many volunteers that keep this fabulous raiway going! Profits from Ffestiniog Travel support the railway.
