Maddy, nearly ALL federal employees in the U.S., about 2 million of them, have been offered the chance to RESIGN in eight months! In an email, they were told they had the option to accept the "deferred resignation" that would see them paid, while receiving full benefits, until September thirtieth. Anyone who accepts would be exempt from "return to office" mandates, and would "likely" have their role reduced or be put on paid LEAVE. The administration believes up to ten percent of employees will accept, saving the government up to a hundred BILLION dollars.
In other news, Google is set to re-label the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America in its maps app. It'll ALSO revert the current Mount Denali back to Mount McKinley. This follows Donald Trump's executive action renaming both locations. The changes will roll out on Google Maps once they're official in the Geographic Names Information System in the United States. Something to note, only users in the U.S. will these name changes, internationally people will see BOTH names.
And the future isn't looking great, according to The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists! In fact, the LIKELIHOOD of a future isn't looking great! The group has moved its "Doomsday Clock" another second closer to "midnight". At eighty-nine seconds, it's now the CLOSEST - as in WORST - it's ever been. Making the adjustment, the group cited Russia's nuclear threats, military applications of artificial intelligence, potential misuse of biological science, global tensions, and climate change. It also called the clock's move a warning to world leaders.
