So today we're doing a comparison between the freshly released RTX 3080 Mobile to the 2019 RTX 2080 Super Max-Q Mobile.
Both GPUs were set to the same 95W Power-Target, so that we see the raw generational improvement
For the RTX 3000 Mobile GPUs, the Power Target mainly decides about their performance. For example, an RTX 3070 at 125W can easily outperform anRTX 3080 capped at 90W (more to that coming in the future). So please, please inform yourself about the RTX 3000 laptop you want to buy and about it's GPU config.
The main difference between both GPUs is that the RTX 3080 Mobile has 16GB GDDR6 VRAM compared to the 8GBs of the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q,
and that the RTX 3080 has nearly DOUBLE the amount of Graphical Pipelines. (6133 for the 3080 compared to 3072 for the 2080 Super Max-Q)
So will the RTX 3080 Mobile easily outperform the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q?
Well... no.
