The matchup for Super Bowl LIX has been FINALIZED! The Philadelphia Eagles will be taking on the Kansas City Chiefs! The Eagles CRUSHED the Washington Commanders fifty-five to twenty-three, mostly thanks to quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley! Then, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs took a thirty-two to twenty-nine thriller over the Buffalo Bills. I feel bad for the Bill but I'm excited to see if the Chiefs can become the first team EVER to win three consecutive Super Bowls. The big game happens in New Orleans on February ninth.
In more sobering news, researchers from the University of Michigan estimate that TWO HUNDRED AND TEN MILLION people are ADDICTED to social media and the internet, worldwide! California State University data says about ten percent of Americans - over thirty-three million - are addicted. And that's just with how RESEARCH defines addiction! When it comes to the SELF-reported rates, the numbers are even higher. Its estimated that as many as FORTY percent of eighteen-to-twenty-two-year-olds are hooked.
A new A.I. chatbot from China is totally shaking up the tech world today. Called the "DeepSeek-R1", it just launched and its developers claim it performance better then the industry leading Chat GPT4 from Open AI. Not only that but they say it only cost about 6 million dollars to develop, rather then the BILLIONS Open AI, Meta and others have been spending to develop theirs. Its release also triggered a massive tech selloff Monday morning on NASDAQ, including shares of AI leader Nvidia, Meta, and Microsoft.
And law enforcement including Interpol is investigating a daring art theft in the Netherlands! Thieves used explosives to access the Drents Museum, which was displaying ancient - and priceless - Romanian jewelry. Four items were taken, including bracelets and the
twenty-five-hundred-year-old solid gold "Helmet of Cotofenesti", which is considered a Romanian national treasure. Authorities have already received dozens of tips, and undoubtedly HOPE to get the artifacts back quickly.
