The Hjalmar Bjorge is a converted Norwegian rescue boat which takes up to 12 passengers on cruises round the West of Scotland. She is based in Oban and is operated by Northern Light Cruising Co Ltd. She is a proper sea-going boat that delivers an authentic adventure experience rather than aspiring to be a cruise ship. On this occasion bad weather forced a change of plan. We had been due to head up to Cape Wrath but instead the skipper Peter wisely plotted a route around the Inner Hebrides taking in Tayvallich (Knapdale) and the islands of Jura, Gigha, Islay, Oronsay, Mull, Inch Kenneth, Ulva, Lunga (Treshnish Islands), Tobermory (Mull), Kerrera and back to Oban. Nine days of stunning scenery, wildlife and mostly fine weather. Good company, fantastic food courtesy of chef Molly and astounding magic shows every evening by the amazing Archie! Thanks to skipper Peter and first mate Jill for helping make it so special.
