We’re back with a real gem of 90s cinema.
I’ve said it before on the show, but The Rich Man’s Wife is easily the worst theatrical experience I’ve ever had.
Starring Halle Berry, known for not bathing in order to play a crackhead for Spike Lee, and being a model; Peter Greene, that guy who plays gravelly voiced villains with what looks like eyeliner, including Zed the rapist, and the guy with eyeliner who flicks a cigarette in Stephen Baldwin’s face in The Usual Suspects; Christopher McDonald, another Hollywood “that guy,” whose career was in no way affected by this film; and Clive Owen, just looking for that big break, clearly slumming it, and very unhappy.
Written and directed by Amy Holden Jones, known for having some deep, old school Hollywood roots that allow her to get away with films such as Beethoven and Indecent Proposal, and Mystic Pizza.
The Rich Man’s Wife tells the story of a rich man’s wife, and how she daydreams about killing the rich man. Enter “stranger at a honky-tonk,” who offers to criss-cross, killing her husband in exchange for something. Then he gets rapey. Also, Clive Owen is the wife’s boyfriend who she’s cheating on rich man with. However, boyfriend also has ex-wife, and boyfriend knows rapist. Mystery! Then rich man gets shot, and Frankie Faison shows up, and it’s a whole thing. It’s considered to be one of the five worst films ever made, but only by me, because nobody else saw it.
With Nathan Bezner, Andrew Jenner, Matt Wagner, Jane Belcastro, and Hsien Lee
