How do you talk with your middle schooler about penis size, penis jokes, and the expectation of privacy in the locker room? A parent question spurred this video topic and I think it's important as many parents have shared the same concerns about having talks with their child about their circumcised or intact penis and the importance of not making others feel self-conscious about the size of their penis. Many people with a penis are concerned about the size of their penis and this may be due to how movies, tv shows, erotic novels, & porn have perpetuated the myth that sexual partners expect and desire a large penis during sexual activity. Talking with your middle school aged child about this myth and explaining the genetics around penis size as well as the importance of not discussing other's genitals with peers is a great way to initiate the talk about penis size and penis jokes. And a gentle reminder parents that most children do not usually think anything is wrong with their genitals unless they have seen something or someone has told them something to make them think otherwise. Don't hesitate to have this conversation with your 10, 11, or 12 year old!

Having the Sex Talk with your Child can feel overwhelming. But I'm here to help and It's Time for the Sex Talk for Parents is designed to make having conversations with your child about sex and answer their sex questions easier. If you have a question or want to reach out to me - feel free - I'm on IG, FB, & TT.

'It's Time for the Sex Talk for Parents' is a channel designed to provide parenting tips and parenting advice on how to talk about sex, sexual health, and sexuality with their child. Many parents feel unprepared to have talks about sex with their child and I, Kathleen Hema, am here to help parents build their confidence in being able to talk about sex with their child. I want parents to know that they can provide medically-accurate and age-appropriate sex education to their child AND include their family values. Family values are an integral part to the sex talk and sex talks with your child but it is key to first explain the medically-accurate sex and sexual health information in an age-appropriate way. Then you can add in your family values. In my videos, I give examples of how to do this.
