Often described as one of the most picturesque towns in the world, Hallstatt’s beauty feels almost dreamlike. Its pastel-colored houses, perched on the lake’s edge, create a scene that looks as though it has been plucked from a fairytale.
Hallstatt is more than just a postcard-perfect village. It holds historical and cultural significance, having been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Due to limited burial space in the village’s small cemetery, locals began exhuming remains and painting the skulls with symbols, dates, and names.
