My solo hiking in the Alps, more precisely Berchtesgaden National Park in Germany is one of my most beautiful solo hiking trips. This is one of the most beautiful places in Europe, with the emerald lake Königssee and the Church of Saint Bartholomew it is worth visiting Germany just for this place.
Berchtesgaden National Park, located in the Bavarian Alps in southeastern Germany, is a perfect destination for solo hiking, backpacking, and camping enthusiasts. The park's stunning alpine scenery features towering mountains, deep valleys, and crystal-clear lakes like Königssee.
For solo hikers, the park offers well-marked trails ranging from easy walks to challenging routes. One of the best trails is the hike to Watzmann, Germany's second-highest peak, providing panoramic views of the Alps. There's also the quieter Jenner summit, ideal for more serene treks.
Wild camping is not allowed in Berchtesgaden National Park, but you can find nearby campsites and mountain huts for overnight stays. If you're into backpacking, the multi-day routes like the Berchtesgaden Loop take you through diverse landscapes, including alpine meadows, forests, and rugged peaks.
Berchtesgaden National Park, established in 1978, is Germany’s only alpine national park and spans around 210 square kilometers in the Bavarian Alps. It's part of a UNESCO biosphere reserve, known for its pristine natural landscapes and commitment to environmental protection. The park is home to a wide variety of ecosystems, from dense forests to rugged alpine terrain, and it's considered a haven for biodiversity. Berchtesgaden National Park's biggest attractions are: Königssee, Watzmann, Jennerbahn and Eagle's Nest.
