I bought this several years ago along with a green screen monitor. The monitor was pretty knackered (but may make an apperance in a future episode). However, unlike most other computers, the Amstrad gets it's power from the monitor and even the TV connection cannot be passive and requires voltage to work correctly.
First task was to make sure the computer work, second task was to load a tape and make sure that worked but again, hit a snag but luckily a mechanical one this time.

I bought the 5V DC power supply from ebay but found it far cheaper on Farnells website. It's 3A and the Amstrad only requires 2A but does not effect anything and unlike voltage, you can have a higher ampege then needed:
