The overview effect is a self-transcendent experience that can change the way that a person thinks about life and their place in the universe permanently. If this is such a positive feeling, shouldn't we all try to experience the overview effect? Unfortunately, it is usually described as a consequence of going into outer space and looking down at the planet Earth from above. Because the cost of sending all people into orbit would be prohibitive, is there an easier way to experience it? Can we simulate the overview effect in a laboratory?
