If you're bummed, find the but! Leave anhedonia behind. There is at least a small truth to the idea of "depressive realism", that sometimes sad people behave more realistically than happy people-- But there is a limit, too! The tricky part is that once your mood gets really bad, your opinion about your own life still seems realistic to you even though it isn't anymore. Something called anhedonia has set in. Anhedonia is a distortion that extends across the past, present, and future of the life of the person experiencing it, making it feel like all three times are/have been hopeless. But this isn't true, and with a little help from a metacognitive technique of thinking about your own thinking (Thanks to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) you can fight against this.
