After a few days of deafening silence, the Malayalam movie industry's biggest stars, Mohanlal and Mammootty, have reacted to the Hema Committee report and the allegations of sexual misconduct against actors and technicians in the industry. A defensive Mohanlal said similar cases exist in other sectors of society as well and urged the media not to destroy the industry. Meanwhile, Mammootty chose to address the issue via social media and issued a statement that almost echoed the sentiments of Mohanlal. It is not just the big Ms who are facing criticism. The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) too has been slammed for its inefficient and apathetic handling of the entire situation. It remains to be seen whether AMMA can chart a new course to address the stains on its legacy.
