Hi everyone, my name is Masud and in todays video I’m going to answer the question: ‘I haven’t studied for 10 years, how do I become a physio?’

You may be someone who has been in full time work for a long period and fancy a career change or someone who has been busy with family life and now that the kids are getting older you’d like to do something for yourself.

HOW - ACCESS COURSE IN SCIENCE

You will need to have a few GCSES at grade C or above particularly in Maths, Science and English.

Taken from Kingston college entry requirements website (below): ‘Candidates must have GCSE Mathematics at grade C/4 or above or Functional Skills maths at Level 2; GCSE English at grade C/4 or Functional Skills English at Level 2; and GSCE Science at grades C/4 or above’

1. The first step is to do an access course in science which will allow you to apply for the course.

The access course gives you an equivalent qualification to A levels or someone coming out of school.

2. You have to score a minimum score to be able to apply, I’ll list some of the entry requirements for some universities/colleges below so you can get an idea of what’s needed.

Westminster college: Access to HE diploma - https://www.cwc.ac.uk/courses/section...
Kingston College (London): https://stcg.ac.uk/kingston-college/a...
Manchester UCEN: https://www.ucenmanchester.ac.uk/subj...

It’s usually a year long course and can be used to go onto a full time bachelors degree in the medical sciences and allied health professions.

From personal experience I found that the course wasn’t extremely difficult although if you wanted to get a high grade you probably would have to study a little extra.

3. In terms of how you’ll be assessed, a lot of it is written exams, multiple choice tests, coursework, presentations. So a big range to fit everyone’s strengths.

You can find out more information on the universities/college websites for their modules for the course.

Or you could just get more information by going to an open day whenever they’re held.

Whilst you’re on the course you should also be completing a ucas application as normal for physiotherapy degree and going to interviews etc.

You will have a personal tutor to help you do this but if not feel free to use the videos on this channel to help you.

I would advise to come in with an open mind and be ready to learn as it may take you a few months before you find your groove getting back into full time academia.

Good luck.
