Frank Cottrell-Boyce delivered a funny and inspiring CMC Keynote in 2013 – just after the phenomenal success of the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony which he wrote for Director Danny Boyle. Now he’s back – and going Back to the Beginning in a delightful and insightful interview with CMC Changemaker Zoe Daniel.
Zoe takes Frank back to his childhood with two “garrulous grannies” in Liverpool, the sanctuary of the local library, schooldays “mostly talking at the back”, subversive satire and fanzines. It all led to a career in TV drama and movies and eventually back to his own childhood and “building the apparatus of happiness” through children’s books and films.
Frank’s lifelong love of animation and its creators makes his recent British Animation Writer’s Award for his adaption of Michael Morpurgo’s book ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ a joyful career highlight – for a writer’s who sees his task as “creating joy in difficult times”.
