According to Russian media outlet Usinsk-Novosti, a lieutenant colonel of the Russian Air Force, who has been active in the conflict against Ukraine since February 24, was killed when his MiG-31 crashed on takeoff in Ukraine's Russian-occupied Crimea.
According to the report, a "emergency scenario" arose when the MiG-31 aircraft approached the runway's end.

A special panel is looking at the disaster's technical reasons. The plane is alleged "for whatever reason" not to have generated the requisite power for take-off.

The warplane took off from the runway's end. Before ejecting, the crew managed to steer it away from structures. The navigator safely ejected, however the pilot did not exit before the plane crashed and detonated.

Usinsk-Novosti named the pilot as 48-year-old Roman Vdovydchenko.
