The Canadian prime minister, who is the son of a prime minister (and the grandson of a cabinet minister), needed someone to investigate his government about alleged malfeasance over national security. So he called up a former governor general, who just happened to be a close family friend whom he went skiing with as a child.
To allay suspicions of a conflict of interest, the former governor general called up a former supreme court justice, who also happens to be a friend, who told him everything was fine.
